Ruby (Manikya) is one of the precious, adorable and rare in superior quality in big (weight) carats. Ruby’s quality identified as per international gemological standard. Fine quality rubies are considered based on color, origin, clarity, cut and weight.

Color – plays a prominent role in increasing Ruby’s value. The finest Ruby (Burma, Myanmar) has natural balanced color, like neither too dark nor too light, is considered superior quality. The highest quality rubies have color consistency and saturation & it comes in blood-red or pigeon blood color.

Origin: Rubies are always in demand from Burma (Mogok mines) because of its consistent saturation color and transparency.  To get such fine quality, researchers found few more countries. Apart from Burma, rubies are also in demand from India,  Madagascar, Mozambique, Kenya, Nepal and Thailand.

Clarity: Ruby is considered more good when it has some inclusions inside or appear outer side. A best ruby has  always see through vision, means the better you can see through, is considered superb quality, but it’s expensive indeed. The more the clarity  the more prices.

Weight : Rubies are available in 1 to 3 (Burma Rubies) carats, but as it goes beyond 3 carats, the price increases. As per international trade of gems, rubies are 5 times higher, per caratwise  beyond 3 carats.

Ruby (Manik) is  really a precious gemstone. Original Rubies are dark in color, not in a perfect shape, no bubbles or gas inside the stone. Original Rubies are hard and to get cross check, one can use a coin to scratch it, if ruby gets any scratched easily, then surely is a fake one, whereas original Rubies don’t get scratched easily.

A Real Ruby always makes its presence, whether in water or milk, just to check, you can put a ruby in milk (light hot) and you will see that it starts showing after 2-3 minutes the rays coming out of the Ruby and appear on milk.  

Most important tips- A Natural, unheated or untreated Ruby, will be with inclusions. The inclusions appear on top or inside the stone with  irregular shape, crossing each other or sometimes not visible clearly. Even a layman can see the inclusions with  the naked eye or using specs or microscope. Such points are considered for Burma rubies (Not for African or Indian rubies) only as those are superb qualilty and best known for rubies.

1. Which Day you should wear: The best day is Sunday to wear Ruby gemstone from Shukla Paksha (Lunar Month, 8^th day of the waxing moon) Asthami to Krishna Paksha ( 8^th days of the waning moon) Ashtmi.

            2^nd Preference to 6 AM to 10 AM

2. Gemstone weight: Ruby’s weight depends on body weight of the wearer. For instance: the  body weight is 60 Kg then (60/12) one should wear 5carats, provided you purchased good quality. On the other hand, if you purchased a low quality of gemstone then it should be divided by 60/10= means 6 carats.
